Custom Roles
In addition to the built-in standard roles, Commerce Manager lets you define custom roles with a name, a description, and a per-permission-group access level (No access, View, or Manage). Use custom roles when the standard roles don't match how your team is actually organized.
You can manage roles from the Settings > Team > Roles page.
Viewing Roles
The Roles page lists roles under two tabs:
- Standard roles - The built-in roles (Basic User, Store Admin, Marketing/Sales, Support, IT/Developer, Promotions Manager, and eCommerce Admin). For details, see Store Roles.
- Custom roles - Roles created for your store or organization.
For each custom role, the table shows its Name, Description, and a Permissions summary listing how many permission groups have View access and how many have Manage access. Use Search by exact name to find a role by its full name, or select roles with the checkboxes to perform Bulk actions.
A role with an ORG badge is owned at the organization level and is inherited, read-only, by every store in the organization. Duplicating an organization-owned role creates a store-owned copy that you can edit independently.
Creating a Custom Role
-
Go to Settings > Team > Roles.
-
Select the Custom roles tab.
-
Click + New custom role.
-
Under Role details, enter a Name (required) and an optional Description.
-
Under Permissions, set an access level for each permission group, such as Accounts, Application keys, Authentication, Catalog releases, Catalog search, Catalogs, Composer, Content and Pages, Currencies, Custom actions, Custom APIs, Flows, Inventory, Legacy catalog, Insights, Orders, Payment gateways, Personal data, Price books, Products, Promotions, Settings, Subscription billing, Subscription jobs, Subscription offerings, Subscription subscribers, Team management, and Webhooks.
Use the Show drop-down to filter the permissions list, for example to show only the groups set to "Manage".
-
Click Create.
The new role appears on the Custom roles tab and can be assigned to a team member from the invite or edit team member page. For more information, see Adding Team Members.
Editing, Duplicating, or Deleting a Custom Role
From the Custom roles tab, click on a row to edit or click the ellipsis next to a role to duplicate or delete it. This action cannot be undone.
